With more than $8M cash-on-hand, the Bennet campaign is touting its strength and getting an early start on its TV ad spend. Michael is the first general election candidate to release a TV ad in Colorado.
July 21, 2022 – DENVER – Today, Michael Bennet launched his first TV ad, which is the first TV ad from any candidate in the general election in Colorado this cycle. In the ad, titled “Common Sense,” Michael argues that Washington needs to learn some Colorado common sense, reject the influence of corporate special interests in our politics, and prevent Members of Congress from making personal stock trades or becoming lobbyists after they leave.
“Michael’s first TV ad shows how he leads by example to end the influence of corporate special interests in our politics and change how things work in Washington. Michael works hard, has a strong grassroots campaign, is the first candidate on the airwaves in the general election and is the clear choice for Coloradans in November,” said Bennet for Colorado campaign manager Justin Lamorte.
Michael announced having more than $8M cash-on-hand at the end of June, ten times the campaign cash of his Republican opponent. O’Dea’s campaign also reported $200K in debt, meaning the campaign actually has less to work with heading into the general election.
O’Dea is running a weak campaign with limited cash on hand, but Mitch McConnell still gave him an endorsement and pledged to be “all in” on the Colorado Senate race. Despite the national GOP party’s heightened interest in the race, Michael is touting his campaign’s strength and getting an early start launching TV ads. He is the first candidate to air a general election TV ad in Colorado; the ads will run the largest buy on a weekly basis by a candidate so far this cycle, totaling more than $300,000 per week, and airing over the next two weeks on broadcast networks in Denver and Colorado Springs.
“Reaching audiences in Colorado’s key media markets this early ahead of the general speaks to the strength of the campaign Michael is running,” explained Bennet for Colorado spokesperson, Georgina Beven. “We’ve launched field offices, kicked off volunteer canvassing efforts, engaged with key groups around the state, and now we’re launching our first TV ad. We’re bolstering our road to the general with solid momentum and we’re excited to re-elect Michael this November.”

“Common Sense” TV ad transcript:
Bennet: “Just as our parents taught us, Susan and I have taught our girls: leave things better than you found them.
But common sense like that has been lost in Washington.
It’s why I’m fighting to ban members of Congress from ever becoming lobbyists.
Why I’m not taking a dime in corporate PAC money
And why I’m working to stop Senators and Congressmen from making personal stock trades.
I’m Michael Bennet and Washington could learn a lot from Colorado, that’s why I approve this message.”
