Bennet Campaign Celebrates Senate Passage of Historic Inflation Reduction Act Ahead of General Election

The Inflation Reduction Act will lower costs; tackle climate change, and make sure big corporations pay their fair share.

DENVER – Yesterday, Michael Bennet celebrated the Senate passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), marking a historic investment to address climate change, reduce our deficit, lower costs and fight inflation for hard-working Coloradans.

“This bill to lower prescription drug costs for seniors, fight climate change, and make big corporations pay their fair share in taxes adds to Michael’s long record of meeting our country’s most pressing challenges while protecting the Colorado way of life,” explains Michael’s campaign manager, Justin Lamorte. “Michael looks forward to discussing how this legislation will benefit working Coloradans as he campaigns across the state this summer.”

Michael is working to build an economy for everyone, not just those at the top. It’s why he refuses to accept a cent from corporate PACs and federal lobbyists, and it’s why he fought so hard to pass this legislation which ensures the biggest corporations pay their fair share of taxes. And, mirroring the values in Michael’s second campaign ad, this legislation is a historic investment in fighting climate change.

Michael has long believed that failed trickle-down economics have hurt working Coloradans, and is pushing to reverse the Trump tax cuts. His general election opponent, Joe O’Dea, on the other hand, supports Trump’s tax cuts that disproportionately benefited the wealthy and opposes the Inflation Reduction Act.

This bill is a huge step forward in supporting hard-working families, and it also lowers costs for Coloradans by requiring Medicare to negotiate drug prices and extending the American Rescue Plan health insurance premium support for three years for Coloradans who rely on the Affordable Care Act.

There is always going to be more work to better support hard-working families in Colorado but Michael applauds the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act as a huge step forward. When Coloradans are struggling financially, they need this type of action from their representatives, and Michael’s advocacy for working to build an economy that works for everyone is another reason why Coloradans will re-elect him this November.
